Bottled water is a conspiracy

I was appalled when I read this article in UTNE about bottled water in the United States.

From "Inside the Bottle", a website dedicated towards unearthing the truths about the bottled water industry, we learn that "When one of the Big 4 (Coca-Cola, Pepsico, Nestle and Danone) establishes a plant in communities they take not only water from the regions aquifers or municipal water utilities, often, they also take massive subsidies, tax exemptions and contribute to environmental damage with their reliance on plastics and packaging."

These companies consider water to be their new growth market. Their cheeky marketing execs boastfully tell their employees that they have to be unique and developing clever campaigns to sell WATER, free to humans since the beginning of time.

* Do you realize that, gallon for gallon, you are paying up to 40% more for water than for gasoline? Consumers spend more than $100B for bottled water a year.
* Did you know that Aquafina and Dasani are nothing more than water from municipal supply that is filtered and bottled?

Not for me, thanks. I rarely used to buy bottled water, but now I think I'm going to stop altogether, unless I am in a different country or region where the municipal water supply can't be trusted.
