Affordable housing design advisor goes green

25Jan06

A cool site developed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, called “Design Advisor”, is available here. They have a new section on their site that says “Green Building is here“. On the list provided above, there is a collection of Green building projects currently being undertaken.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with economies of scale once the intersection of Green housing alternatives + affordable housing for the middle-income market of homebuyers occurs. I think that building developers who embrace the coming changes early will find themselves with a competitive advantage in 5-10 years as people start to prefer low-energy consumption “Green” homes.

I hope to continue tracking the status of several of these green design projects over time…. And, I still have a lot of work to do on my economic analysis of PV solar power for the average Joe homeowner but I’m really heads down on studying for the GMAT right now so I’ll get to it when I can!
