“Simulacra of Simulacra of Simulacra”

Those are Gibson’s words, in the eyes of protagonist Cayce Pollard in Pattern Recognition to describe the tons of ubiquitous fashion knockoffs that spawn more knockoffs in an inevitable and vicious cycle.

Arrgh. Apparently, it wasn’t enough for “Crocs” to make their legendary and woefully
dreadful apparitions that seem to be omnipresent at teen summer camps across America.

skechersugly
Skechers had to make an extremely-inexpensive-to-manufacture but sell-at-a-preposterously-high-margin foam shoe to compete with Crocs.

I wonder if these are compatible with Jibbitz, tiny beads that are placed in the shoes also sold at a fairly high margin.

Sometimes, I wish I could go back to the moment when executives are sitting around a table deciding whether or not to innovate or imitate a competitors product, almost to the tee.
