Support Design Education.

25Nov07

Design Continuum created a set of videos about design/design education and why they believe it is necessary.  Check them out, here.

There’s also a BusinessWeek article about it, here.

There is a tremendous demand for design thinkers today. In industry and in consulting, those who can marry creative right-brain thinking and analytical left-brain thinking are at a premium. That’s because innovation often happens not in the center of a discipline but in the space between disciplines, and right now a lot of new value is being found at the intersection of design and business. Professionals who can understand and respect both sides are at an advantage in our increasingly creative economy.

while in general, i am aligned with their message, i didn’t find the first video all that compelling. rather, it was a narrated slide show with too many quotes to read. but still, they are putting themselves out there, and that is a good thing.

I felt the same. I think they hope to rely on superfluous quotations and hyperbole because that’s what “business people” respond to?
For a design shop, I think the video could have been put together far better.
